Don’t rush this bit

Being newly engaged is special. It’s exciting, emotional and a little bit surreal — and it doesn’t last forever. So before you dive into planning mode, give yourselves permission to pause.

Enjoy telling people.
Enjoy looking at your ring.
Enjoy sitting on the sofa saying, “We’re actually engaged.”

There’s no rush. The planning can wait a moment.

When You’re Ready, Start With the Feeling

When it does feel right to begin thinking about your wedding, try not to start with a checklist. Instead, start with a conversation.

Ask each other:

How do we want our wedding to feel?
Relaxed and outdoorsy?
A big celebration with everyone we love?
Intimate, cosy and full of atmosphere?

Getting clear on the vibe will guide every decision that comes later — from your venue to your food, music and styling.

Think Seasons, Not Dates

One of the biggest bits of pressure we see is couples trying to lock in a specific date straight away. Instead, think more broadly.

Do you love long summer evenings?
Cosy autumn colours?
Spring flowers?
Or crisp winter light?

Keeping your date flexible, especially early on, makes the whole planning process feel calmer and opens up more options.

Choose Your Venue First

Your venue is the backbone of your wedding. It sets the tone, shapes your guest list, influences your budget and often determines what’s possible on the day.

Take your time visiting venues. Walk around. Ask questions. Picture yourselves there. Trust your gut — when it feels right, you’ll know.

You don’t need to have everything figured out straight away. You don’t need to follow trends. You don’t need to rush because the internet tells you to.
